IT ALL came down to one bingo ball, as it determined the fate of 27-year-old sales executive Paing Poh Choo, who walked away with the grand prize of a brand new Chery Tiggo 2.0 SUV worth RM90,000 during the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tours (MATTA) Fair Buyers Contest prize presentation ceremony.

It was held at Rama V Fine Thai Cuisine in Jalan U- Thant, Kuala Lumpur recently.

Participants of the contest determined their own fate as they had to spin the numbered bingo balls placed in a cage until one of them rolled out. They then had to exchange their bingo balls for an envelope with the same number.

Paing, who spent RM6,000 during the previous MATTA Fair in March for a trip to Bali, said he had not expected to win.

“This is the first time I am taking part in the contest and I was surprised to find that I had won the SUV. I sent in five entries and plan to take part in other contests in the future,” he said.

The contest received over 28,392 entries from 3,497 participants.

Besides the grand prize, other prizes included two units of Gintell Massage Chairs worth about RM22,000, courtesy of Gintell (M) Sdn Bhd, as well as four Pearl business class return air tickets from Etihad Airways.

The buyers’ contest was the first time the entry forms were entered electronically or online and helped MATTA reduce paper wastage and be more eco-friendly.

MATTA Fair chairman Jeffri Sulaiman, who was present at the prize presentation ceremony, said they were aware of some shortcomings in promoting the newer halls during the previous MATTA Fair.

“Although the overall sales achieved by the majority of the exhibitors is very good, we will address the problems to ensure better traffic flow into the newer halls like “Legar Putra” and Hall 1M during the next fair,” he said, adding that total visitor turnout was 100,188 over three days and that RM220mil in sales was generated during the previous fair.

Etihad Airways senior manager Camn Mustapha was also present to give out the prizes for the Etihad Contest, which was held in conjuction with the fair.

The next MATTA Fair will be held from Sept 6 to 8 at PWTC and will include the Favourite Destination Partner category.
